What currency should I use in Dubai?

Local prices use AED (UAE dirham). When paying or withdrawing cash, compare fees and any offered exchange rate. Choosing local currency rather than a merchant’s home-currency conversion can avoid that merchant’s conversion markup, but your own bank may still charge. Check your card terms; do not assume every taxi or small shop accepts cards.
