Do I need an ESTA to visit or transit through the United States?

If you are travelling under the Visa Waiver Program, you need approved ESTA before travel, including qualifying transit. Eligibility depends on passport nationality, purpose, travel history and other conditions; qualifying business/tourism visits are up to 90 days. A valid applicable US visa is a different route, not an ESTA application. ESTA does not authorise work or guarantee admission. Tell us your passport nationality, purpose and stay length—not your passport number—and use the official US checker. Apply only through the official ESTA site; do not assume every traveller needs ESTA.

Check current VWP restrictions, passport conditions and fees with US authorities before paying or travelling.
