A medical rescue halfway up a cliff trail
On Acadia’s Beehive Trail, a medical emergency required sixteen rescuers.
Rangers responded at about 8 am to a serious medical event on the Beehive Trail. Rescuers found the person halfway up the nearly vertical section. A Maine Forest Service helicopter carried the patient by short haul to a field near Sand Beach, where an ambulance took over. The trail closed for an hour during the operation. Responders cleared the scene around 11 am. The report does not provide a later medical outcome or establish that the patient caused the emergency.
Outcome: The patient was transported to hospital; later recovery is not reported.
Lesson: Steep terrain can complicate evacuation. Respect rescue closures and match the route to your needs.
