Seven tourists lost after dark did one thing right
After calling for help, the lost group stayed in one place.
Seven tourists requested help around 6 pm after becoming lost on Mount Karioi near Raglan. Police and search volunteers located them around 11:30 pm, about 500 metres from the track. Police described inadequate clothing and equipment, no food and no torches. They also identified one helpful action: after requesting assistance, the group remained where they were. The release describes the search as taking place the previous night and reports successful recovery.
Outcome: The search team located and recovered the group.
Lesson: Carry navigation, food, water, a torch and weather protection, and tell someone your plans.
